I DON’T NEED MUCH BUT I WANT MORE
Yesterday I was laying in a park, overlooking Hollywood, in LA. The sun was setting, down by Century City. It really was the perfect moment, except I’m super unhappy with my achievements as director thus far and therefore I’m super miserable.
Let me tell you, that puts a damper on pretty much everything in my life. Of course it’s not as bad as it feels but all I can think about is this: If I’d get to direct, every day, for the rest of my life and somebody pays my rent, I’d finally be utterly and truly happy. That’s all I want.
There is literally nothing that satisfies my as much as directing does. And I don’t just mean being on set, but all of it. From preproduction to post. From arguments and creative differences to the absolute magic when it all comes together.
Simply put, directing means everything to me.
So the rest of this year and then the months next year, leading up to the next decade of my life, will be dedicated to making directing my career. Directing every day. In some form of fashion.
I will attempt various strategies over the next months and I’ll keep you all posted on that!
HERE IS MY FIRST STEP:
Setting SMART goals! And then, once those goals have been defined, I’m going to work backwards to define the smallest increment of action I must take today, to achieve these goals. So it would go something like this:
GOAL: I WANT TO DIRECT EVERY DAY!
SMART GOAL: PRODUCE & DIRECT 5 MUSIC VIDEOS BY THE END OF THE YEAR!
SMALLEST INCREMENT OF ACTION: REACH OUT TO 10 MUSICIANS/BANDS DAILY AND PITCH MY PRODUCTION SERVICES TO THEM / SEE IF THERE IS A POSSIBLE COLLABORATION THERE.
This process makes all goals tangible and it gives me something specific to do, daily. Most importantly it makes me active and puts me in the driver seat of my career! I’m excited about the possibilities and chances that will arise through these actions!
In this spirit I came across an amazing article that I’d love to share with you! It’s a wonderful perspective that we may not always consider, from our end, as directors. Check it out, it’s totally worth your time:

Let me know what you think of the article! I found it pretty inspiring. I don’t mind the harshness, I find it encouraging! And let me know what you do to stay active and ahead of the game!
All my best,
